Manziel asked to stop tweeting at A&M recruits to avoid violations

On Wednesday, which was National Signing Day for college football, Manziel tweeted that he has been told he can no longer reach out to recruits due to “controversial NCAA rules.”

The Dallas Morning News notes, the rules are pretty clear in this instance.

NCAA bylaw 13.02.13 (c) states that former players cannot “be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.”

Prospective players can initiate contact, but Manziel can’t go around reaching out to high schoolers telling them they should play for the Aggies.
