B1G Going Back to 8 Game Conference Slate?

he Big Ten has been playing a 9-game conference schedule for a couple of years. The league opted to go to the 9-game schedule back in 2016. The move was believed to help the conference when it comes to making the College Football Playoff, as only four teams can make it.

This might be changing. One of the Big Ten athletic directors hinted on Monday that the league might be going back to an 8-game schedule.

Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos says that the strength of schedule has really had no bearing on the College Football Playoff for the Big Ten.

Rivals.com’s Sean Callahan reported the news.

“Moos hinted on his radio show tonight that there could be some other schedule news coming out for 2022. He said it had to do with the Big Ten not beating each other up so bad, because strength of schedule has had really no baring on the Big Ten for the CFP. Back to 8 league games?” he tweeted.
